- Add two cups of vinegar and two cups of water to a spray bottle. Shake well to mix.
- Fold a sheet of aluminum foil (about 12″ long) into an approximately 2″ small square.
- Spray your vinegar and water solution liberally onto the grill racks.
- Let it dry for about 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, spray vinegar only onto the aluminum foil square and use it to scrub the insides of your grill, which should be dry by now.
- There’s no need to rinse.
- You can use vinegar to clean the outside of the grill, but do not use the foil to scrub the surface, or you could scratch the exterior. Use a sponge or cloth instead.
Before you ask your guests to sit outside on your deck or patio, you’ll want to make sure things are ready for them!
- Sweep or vacuum all outdoor entertaining spaces such as patio or decks. In most cases, you can follow up with a good hosing down or mop with water and mild detergent or vinegar and water. Be careful with outdoor plants and vegetation when selecting a product.
- Spot clean or machine wash outdoor cushions. We recommend following manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning any outdoor fabrics. In some cases tossing them in the washing machine will be just fine.
- For mildew, there’s no need to get out the bleach. In most cases, a good scrubbing with baking soda and water or vinegar and water will be sufficient to remove winter’s mildew.
Dust mites are microscopic in size, but for the estimated 20 million Americans living with dust mite allergies or asthma, they make a significant difference.

As a top-rated housecleaning service in Northern Virginia, Rescue Me Cleaning recommends these tips for reducing dust mites in your home. Try them along with one of our deep cleanings! According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, dust mites and their droppings are one of the leading causes of year-round allergies and asthma. While it’s impossible to completely eliminate them from any home, there are things you can do to significantly reduce their effect.
Temperature and Humidity Levels
Dryness and temperatures between 65 and 72 degrees are important for dust mite control. Dust mites like the humidity level to go above 50% in order to thrive, so controlling humidity also helps tremendously.
Throw open the windows on a comfortable, dry day! Freshening up indoor air, especially in the bedrooms where these little critters thrive, is a great idea. One hour a day is sufficient to bring in the fresh air and usher out the stale air.
Wash Bedding and Soft Furnishings
Wash bedding every week in hot water (mites can’t survive at temperatures above 130F) to help kill dust mites. Don’t forget other soft furnishings such as cushions, pillows or throws. Wash them monthly in high heat as well. Curtains aren’t immune to dust mites and they, too, should be cleaned regularly! Most allergists recommend limiting soft furnishings in the bedroom of anyone with allergies or asthma to help limit dust mite exposure. There is some evidence that eucalyptus oil added to the wash helps to eliminate up to 99% of dust mites.
Dust Mite Covers
Allergists recommend using special dust mite covers on all mattresses, duvets and pillows in the bedroom. These special fabrics can prevent dust mites from burrowing into these items and help limit exposure in the bedroom.
If you want to reduce the dust mite population, then reduce the clutter in your home. It’s also a terrific way to reduce the amount of cleaning! Keep surfaces in your home, especially the bedrooms, clear of clutter and dust as much as possible. Limit soft furnishings in the bedrooms as we’ve stated but also throughout your home if there is someone with asthma or severe allergies.
Carpets and Flooring
Most allergists recommend limiting carpeting in the home when allergies or asthma present. Use a vacuum with a high-quality, HEPA filter and good ratings. Wet vacuuming and steam cleaning are the best methods for getting rid of dust mites in carpeting.
Pet Owners Beware
Pets carry dander, which means dust mites. Whether your pet has fur or feathers, dust mites are likely to be present and homeowners should take extra measures to control the dust mite population. This includes extra cleaning, keeping pet beds clean by washing in hot water, and using allergen-proof fabric covers, if possible, for pet beds. Keeping pets off human beds is also a good idea!

Investment vs. Indulgence
Hiring a professional house cleaner might seem like an indulgence, but it’s more about an investment. What is your time worth to you? If you’re like most people, your time is precious, especially when it comes to family. Think about hiring a cleaning service as an investment in your family and your time together.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Professional housecleaning can save you money in the long run through regular maintenance. The build-up of dirt and grime means harder scrubbing, which will lead to wear and tear to the point of deterioration. Keeping things clean helps maintain surfaces, appliances and the overall condition of your house.
Professionals Make a Difference
There’s a wrong way and a right way to clean. At Rescue Me Cleaning, we know how to clean your home based on its materials. We also know correct techniques along with the best eco-friendly products. We are efficient, thorough and knowledgeable.

Sterling, VA – Rescue Me Cleaning is honored to announce that Owner Geoff Crawley has been selected to serve on the Children’s Medical Nutrition Alliance (CMNuA) Board of Directors. Hundreds of thousands of children in the US face severe health consequences due to various medical conditions and diseases that make it impossible to consume a natural, life-sustaining diet. To live and thrive, they depend on specialized—and costly—medical foods and formulas.
CMNuA provides direct support to families and children with medical nutrition needs, raises awareness of the various medical conditions that require these foods, educates the public about the pressing need for better access to medical foods, and identifies and eliminates barriers to medical foods and formulas, such as coverage inequalities and their resulting economic impact, that hamper their appropriate use as a standard of care.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to help make a difference through the Children’s Medical Nutrition Alliance,” said Rescue Me Cleaning Owner Geoff Crawley. “These nutritional challenges pose serious health threats to children and place significant financial strains on families. I’m proud to be part of an organization that’s dedicated to improving children’s lives.”
Geoff, together with his wife Dawn, are innovative business leaders that not only operate a great service business, they also actively give back to the community working with various charities including Cleaning for a Reason, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, National Capital Lyme Disease Association and Smashing Walnuts.
